Immigration and Nationality Act
The foundational federal statute governing immigration to and citizenship in the United States. Establishes visa categories, grounds for deportation, and the authority of ICE and CBP to enforce immigration law.
Why this matters
The INA provides the legal authority under which ICE conducts enforcement operations. The Minnesota raids were carried out under INA Β§287, which authorizes immigration officers to interrogate, arrest, and detain individuals suspected of being in the country unlawfully.
